April 19, 2012 Marc Boileau
will discuss Canada's forgotten Nation Project- Marc
Boileau of the University of Guelph will speak on the architecture
of Public Works Canada by focusing the history of our Customs
& Post Office buildings. He is the author of Towers
of Time: Ontario which examines regionally important Post
Offices and Customs Houses to illustrate their architectural
and historical context.
May 17, 2012 Willard Burton
will be presenting a history of Canadian Coins. Willard
Burton has been a member of the Rotary Club for many years and
a member of the Brampton Rotary Club for the past 3 years. He
started "The Brampton Coin Show", which is hosted
by the Rotary Club of Brampton, to raise money for Children's
Charities. Consequently, the coin show will be held on April
29, 2012 at Century Gardens Recreational Centre in Brampton
at 9:30 a.m.
June 21, 2012 Herb Kingston
will be presenting a narrated slide show of his fond memories
of the home delivery business of days gone by. Herb Kingston
is a historian and photo collector of dairy and bakery delivery
wagons and vehicles of the past. He is also a former driver
for Blantyre Dairy, Silverwoods Dairy and Simpson's Department
stores and has much knowledge to share.
September 20, 2012 - The
War of 1812 and the Battle of York
Steve Collie, a Brampton and Toronto Historian,
as well as a Fort York Guard for 19 years, will take us on an
exciting exploration of the War of 1812, the war that defined
our nation for the first time. BHS marks two centuries since
the beginning of this war which stretched to the end of 1814.
October 18, 2012 - For decades,

making Canada Cycle & Motor the quintessential Canadian
company. Please join author John McKenty for
a lively discussion tracing the history of CCM
from its formation in 1899 until its eventual demise in 1983.
Copies of John McKenty's book Canada Cycle & Motor: The
CCM Story will be available following the presentation ($25).
November 15, 2012 - Cathy Crinnion,
the Senior Archaeologist at the Toronto and Region Conservation
Authority, will provide an illustrated presentation entitled
"Early Brampton Through the Eyes of Archaeology"
through slides and artifacts relating to several archaeological
sites that have been discovered on Conservation lands in the
City of Brampton. She will touch on the area's earliest Indigenous
peoples, a topic that she covered in more detail with the BHS
in January of 2010, and will focus on Indigenous settlement
prior to European Contact as well as sites where early Colonial
Settlers set up their new lives in the New World. |
